The Work Continues...

Forty days have passed since my mom returned to Allah and all praise is due to Allah. We are getting back to work. Certainly there still exists among family and friends pain and sadness, but it is our life's work and the reminder that none of us is promised tomorrow that gives us the strength to forge ahead.

So, tell bad news to take a vacation or a back-seat to the good news that with every rising sun, there is an opportunity to live, love, and experience joy and laughter and the whole spectrum of thoughts and feelings that life has to offer. We are truly blessed to have been chosen to experience life in this wonderful world and we must all find reason and cause to be thankful.

So, I thank Allah that Dr. Alim and I have had the opportunity to return to Atlanta -just the first stop with the road clinic. And, I thank Allah that any day now, my sister will give birth to Aaliyah Mashala Muhammad. And, I thank Allah that my brother and I were able to collaborate on a dynamite inspirational song for the Barack Obama campaign. I thank Allah that we will be headed out to Hollywood for an appearance on a television show as a way to open some doors when we return to the community. My mother would have loved to see this day!

These, however, are mere pennies in the billion dollar promise of what Allah has in-store for all of us. We have heard and are constantly reminded of the "warning" but there is hope and "good news." Let's not make ourselves victims who embrace victimhood. Let us embrace the "good news" that the Savior has come granting us the keys to a limitless future.

"By the grace and help of Allah, let your expression in this life-time have a permanent, positive impact in the world. I dare to proclaim that Sister Mashala made that kind of impact...and we're eternally greatful."

As-Salaam Alaikum Family!

All Praises be to Allah for your Strength and Courage. For it is only by His permission and grace that allow us the "opportunity to live, love, and experience joy and laughter" in the mist of pain, loss and heartache. You are truly blessed and of the "Chosen One." It is wonderful that you and Dr. Alim are continuing the mission of the Road Clinic and you and your brother are collaborating a "spiritual song" for the Obama Campaign. It is said--"When Almighty God takes One Righteous Soul---He always send another in its place." We look forward to welcoming Aaliyah MaShala Muhammad to our World/Planet soon....
You make your Mother Proud Brother James....She is truly smiling down on you!!
It is clear that the Bible considers 40 days a "spiritually significant time period." It is written that whenever Allah wanted to prepare someone for his purposes, He took 40 days.

I Cor 15:58
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the LORD, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the LORD.

Remember--ALLAH Loves You...
And We Love You...
Keep You Head Up!!

As-Salaam Alaikum Family!

All Praises be to Allah for allowing us another opportunity and another special moment in Remembering Sister Mashala, (my son O'Keon) and all our Loved Ones during this month that Muslims fast....

The Fast of Ramadan

It is during this month that Muslims fast. It is called the Fast of Ramadan and lasts the entire month. Ramadan is a time when Muslims concentrate on their faith and spend less time on the concerns of their everyday lives. It is a time of worship and contemplation.

During the Fast of Ramadan strict restraints are placed on the daily lives of Muslims. They are not allowed to eat or drink during the daylight hours. Smoking and sexual relations are also forbidden during fasting. At the end of the day the fast is broken with prayer and a meal called the iftar. In the evening following the iftar it is customary for Muslims to go out visiting family and friends. The fast is resumed the next morning.

According to the Holy Quran:

One may eat and drink at any time during the night "until you can plainly distinguish a white thread from a black thread by the daylight: then keep the fast until night"

The good that is acquired through the fast can be destroyed by five things:
1. The telling of a lie
2. Slander
3. Denouncing someone behind his back
4. A false oath
5. Greed or covetousness

These are considered offensive at all times, but are most offensive during the Fast of Ramadan.

During Ramadan, it is common for Muslims to go to the Masjid (Mosque) and spend several hours praying and studying the Quran. In addition to the five daily prayers, during Ramadan Muslims recite a special prayer called the Taraweeh prayer (Night Prayer). The length of this prayer is usually 2-3 times as long as the daily prayers. Some Muslims spend the entire night in prayer.

On the evening of the 27th day of the month, Muslims celebrate the Laylat-al-Qadr (the Night of Power). It is believed that on this night Muhammad first received the revelation of the Holy Quran. And according to the Quran, this is when God determines the course of the world for the following year.

When the fast ends (the first day of the month of Shawwal) it is celebrated for three days in a holiday called Id-al-Fitr (the Feast of Fast Breaking). Gifts are exchanged. Friends and family gather to pray in congregation and for large meals. In some cities fairs are held to celebrate the end of the Fast of Ramadan.

May Allah continue to Strengthen and Bless you as we take this Journey --- We Call "LIFE!!"
